Cultural Projects: Responsible Art Exhibitions
Cultural projects
We are continuing our commitment to the promotion of culture through the FUERTE FOUNDATION AND OUR RESPONSIBLE PROJECT. Part of our aim is to develop cultural projects in all of our hotels. As a result, the chain organises exhibitions of works of art on the subject of social and/or environmental responsibility, another of the basic principles of the El Fuerte Group's policy. The final aim is to create an art collection based on these principles.
The first step towards putting RESPONSIBLE ART on display was an exhibition organised in November 2008 at the Fuerte Marbella and the idea is to continue by holding similar exhibitions in the rest of our hotels.
Our idea is that the works of art that form part of our collection "should not only be decorative or descriptive, but must also innovate, illuminate, propose ideas and provide solutions for the problems that affect the planet". These are the words of Isabel Luque García, the person in charge of this department.
The main idea is to raise awareness among anyone who comes to the exhibitions about the need for caring for the environment, and about the fact that our involvement is necessary to tackle social problems and multicultural integration.
Another new feature is that the collection is not only on display at the chain's hotels, but it can also be viewed in a virtual gallery on our website.
Starting from the year 2009, the group's intention is to use the significant encouragement that they are giving to responsible projects to raise awareness, among the general public and our clients who visit the exhibitions, about the general environmental and social problems that we are beset with, not only in our most immediate surroundings, but all over the world.
Specifically, we will use the Fuerte Foundation's cultural department to promote artists who are preferably new and from Andalusia or from the destinations where our new hotels are going to be built. All of the artists must have two characteristics in common: a high level of pictorial quality and a good expression of social or environmental issues in their work. In order to participate, they must follow the guidelines that are posted on this website.
Exhibitions
Furthermore, we shall also give amateur artists from all over Spain the opportunity to exhibit their work in a space that is especially symbolic to us, our Fuerte Marbella history museum.
The person in charge of the Fuerte Foundation's cultural Department, Isabel Luque García, commented that:
"this initiative forms part of our belief that it is necessary for companies today to be involved, that we should use as many of our resources as possible to improve our surroundings. We believe that part of this is providing assistance to people who live in our surroundings, as well as taking measures that are necessary to minimise the amount of damage done to the environment."
This is the current path that is being followed by Fuerte Hoteles with our new identity as "Responsible hotels", and the project is firmly grounded in our new business mission.
We have been applying environment protection measures in our hotels since the year 1996 and we have been working with social projects since the Fuerte Foundation was created in the year 2005, but now, with our Responsible Hotels project, we are attempting to raise awareness of these issues amongst our clients and society in general."
