The Fuerte Foundation, an institution created by Grupo El Fuerte to promote social activities and cooperation for sustainable development, today launched a new wave of social and cultural initiatives. After putting more than a dozen projects into operation during 2009, the foundation has kicked off the New Year with a plan to double the number of activities carried out last year. This is part of their plan to continue supporting improvements to living conditions for people who are at risk, both in Spain and abroad.

The Foundation’s Trust has held its annual meeting to discuss and approve the projects to be carried out over the next year. It has been decided to exceed the 14 initiatives and activities that were carried out over the last 12 months. In total, the foundation has approved 12 social projects and 10 cultural projects for this year. These will be carried out alongside the projects started during 2009 that are still running.
Education and training projects for young people, programmes to prevent drug addition in school and family environments, and socio-educational and cultural initiatives were just some of the activities carried out by the foundation over the past year. They have contributed to the development of the area where the group’s establishments are located, as well as those places where their help is most needed – always keeping in mind the values that have always sustained the philosophy of this family business.
In 2009, the Fuerte Foundation provided economic assistance to projects such as an education and vocational training programme for indigenous young people in the Philippines; the enlargement of a self-help centre for single mothers in Jamica; programmes run by the Proyecto Hombre Association to prevent drug addiction in various education centres in Andalusia; the construction of a home in Guatemala for children and young people who are at risk; and the construction of a well for drinking water at a refuge centre in Côte d'Ivoire. Many socio-educational, cultural and environmental projects were also carried out by the Fuerte Cultural branch of the group.
The foundation also participated in other initiatives aimed at supporting not-for-profit organisations, such as the signing of an agreement between the Horizonte Association and the Barclays Foundation, the Hacienda del Caribe Project and the delivery of the book "Andalusian Teenagers and Drugs" to schools and parent associations in Andalusia.
