Vive el arte

This summer, Fuerte Conil is playing host to the collective “Vive el Arte” exhibition, sponsored by the Fuerte Foundation. This cultural event brings together a selection of works by the painters Mercedes Diez and Richard Halford, the photographer Bryan Hemming and the designer and craftsperson Gesa Keunecke. The exhibition can be visited until the 30 October in the Fontanilla Room at the Fuerte Conil Hotel.

The paintings that Mercedes Diez (Jerez de la Frontera, 1967) brings to the show are in a style that tends towards abstract. This Andalusian painter has been exhibiting her work regularly in Spain since 1999. Her paintings subtly express her love for the landscape motifs found in Andalusia, which she interprets with great elegance. Diez shares this style with Richard Halford (England, 1945), a British painter who has been living in Vejer for 10 years and who works with oil on canvas. His work has a naturalistic style, inspired by Hockeney and Matisse.

Bryan Hemming (Leicester, 1949) has been living in Conil de la Frontera for more than eleven years and is the creator of the photographs displayed in the exhibition. He is a writer, graphic designer and photographer who has worked for several international newspapers and has published stories and essays. Lastly, Gesa Keunecke (Frankfurt, 1967) has contributed several pieces of craftwork to the exhibition, created from different materials using a patchwork technique. This German designer has taken part in numerous fashion shows and has worked as a stage designer and wardrobe supervisor for theatrical runs.

The surprise awaiting visitors to the VIVE EL ARTE exhibition is the chance to see the RESPONSIBLE ART collection. This belongs to the Fuerte Foundation and is made up of pieces created on an ad hoc basis by all the artists who have exhibited in our hotels since 2008, who were asked to highlight or provide solutions to problems that, in their opinion, beset our planet.

As part of the work carried out since 2009 by Fuerte Hoteles to promote culture, qualified Fuerte Experiences guides are running tours around the art exhibition once per week for young people. After the tour, youngsters are given the chance to interpret what they have seen through their own paintings, and drawings and prizes will be awarded for the best pieces at the end of the summer season.

Prizes and diplomas from the competition held in 2009 will be awarded to participants from each age group during the inauguration of this year’s exhibition.
