Juan María Pedrero to give the next Sol Mayor Organ concert in Marbella

The Marbella Friends of the Sol Mayor Organ Association and the Fuerte Foundation are organising a concert by the Zamoran organist, Juan María Pedrero, which will be held next Friday the 9th of May in the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación in Marbella (Málaga). This concert will mark 100 years since the birth of Rodrigo Bocanegra, parish priest and supporter of the Sol Mayor Organ.

Pedrero studied the organ and piano at the Liceo Higher Conservatory of Music in Barcelona and continued his training in France at the Orleàns Conservatory and in Paris. Later, he became head organist at the Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara (Japan), giving recitals at the main concert venues in this country. He has also performed numerous concerts all over Spain and in France, Switzerland, Canada, Cuba, Ecuador and the Philippines.

Pedrero has been presented with several awards for his efforts. In 1991, he won the Premier Prix de Perfectionnement from the Orleàns Conservatory, and in the year 2000 he won First Prize in the Grand Prix Jean-Louis Florentz competition at the l´Académie de Beaux Arts in France.

Pedrero will begin the recital with an 8-minute piece by the composer Louis Marchand, before continuing with a Chorale by Pachelbel. Concert-goers will also get the chance to enjoy a Toccata by Johann Sebastian Bach and a Fugue by Felix Mendelssohn, amongst other pieces by different composers.

The Friends of the Sol Mayor Organ Association

The aim of the Friends of the Sol Organ Association is to study the historical, technical and artistic aspects of the Sol Mayor Organ, as well as to collaborate with its restoration, conservation and improvement. By doing this, they aim to promote musical culture in the school environment and to generate interest in this instrument among children.

In the year 2006, the Fuerte Foundation, presided over by Isabel García Bardón, took over the restoration work of the organ at the Church of La Encarnación and put organ expert Albert Blancafort in charge of recuperating all of its sound characteristics, which had been lost during the course of time.
